about

Full 47 Minute Live-in-the-Studio recording done shortly after the Exile Album was released almost 20 years ago. It is the only existing recording of an all-ambient minimal synth MFIT set. The Bandcamp download includes the full set in a continuous track (as it was performed) and also a single tracked edit of the final song for those time conscious listeners needing a more direct ambient fix.

This performance uses only two synthesizers: A Roland Juno 106 and a Sequential Circuits Pro One with a few rack effects from the time. Some material is taken from the Exile album including the songs "Untitled#3", "Far and Away", and "Resonance". As with most of my live work in MFIT some material was rehearsed and other songs were improvised . Shortly after this recording I moved into using synced drum machines, roland X0X instruments, etc and those recording can be found on subsequent releases including the CAFFEINE Live album and Nature/Nurture so enjoy this nugget of the quieter side.

LEgionUK Studios was my apartment at 2126 Pine St. . I folded up the Futon to get the space to set up the two synths for this and record it. I was releasing industrial soundscapes and ambient drones as early as 1990 using my nick "Legion". One day I wandered into the Digital Underground CD store and saw a CD by "Legion" and asked what type of music it was. "industrial/ambient soundscapes" I was told. The artist was from the UK so rather than give up my moniker I passively aggressively decided to name all my recording spots LegionUK studios. Good Times.

The cover photo is of the sticker I made and slapped on the back of my Juno 106 in the early 1990s. It's still there. The words come from a doctor's office brochure on Tinnitus my mom gave me when she learned I was in a band.

NOTE: The Original source material for this was a cassette tape which has been digitally remastered and cleaned up a bit but retains all its analog glory.

Enjoy.
